Fire Mountain

This shot was taken from the Lake Challenge dike at Fire Mountain Scout Camp. We were there delivering some camping supplies to our son and decided to take a walk around the lake.

Wisteria in the Autumn

Fall is one of my four favorite seasons of the year. I enjoy the colors and the variety. This summer, we built a split rail fence along one property line and planted some wisteria.

Cold Mornings on Camano Island

It is so cold on February mornings. Bare hands and an aluminum tripods do not go well together.

I hurried out of the house before dawn this morning with the hope of getting a couple of pictures in the early morning light. When I arrived at Cavalero Beach, I was surprised to see that I had company. I had to shoot this picture off-hand before my guest left.

I love the rays at sunrise. As silly as it may seem, they remind me of my time in Japan.

After I left the beach to drive home, I took a detour by the aptly named Driftwood Shores community.

A few nights ago, I was playing around by moving my zoom while taking a long exposure shot. The result is this picture of one of Sheryl's quilts.

Christmas 2010

We were very fortunate to have the entire family home with us for Christmas this year. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them. Everyone arrived on Saturday, December 18th. After spending a couple of days around home waiting for me to get off work, we left to spend several days at Whistler, British Columbia. We returned to Camano Island on Monday, December 27th.

We purchased a small Christmas tree to take with us on the trip. One of the primary considerations this year was size. We had to fit Christmas and personal belongings for eight people in the trunks of one mid-size and one small sedan.

There was fresh snow for our first two days, our last full day and the morning we left. It is alway so beautiful when one does not have to drive anywhere. It was fun to go out at night and try to capture some of the mood from the lights and the snow. This photo is from our apartment complex.

A small stream flows between the upper and the main villages. During the Christmas season, the bridge is lit with colored lights. We saw green, blue and red. Matt and I had some fun one night taking bridge pictures.

This picture was taken from that same bridge earlier in the day.

I am so grateful that we had this time together. My heart is full from the many blessings that I enjoy.

Thanksgiving 2010

Some people say that golf is the most fun game they have ever hated. I think photography is much the same. This Thanksgiving weekend, I took more than a hundred pictures and came back with only one or two that I like. These are the Christmas lights on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. The Assembly Hall is in the background.

The second picture is a a fountain on Temple Square. As you can tell, it was quite cold. The slow shutter speed enhances the icy appearance.

This summer was my first attempt at taking fireworks photographs. I learned that it was not as difficult as I thought it would be. All I needed was a tripod and a remote control for my camera. I used the remote to open the shutter for a few seconds and to then close it again. This shot was taken on July 31st at the National Scout Jamboree in Virginia.

Old English Boom

I enjoy the fall and winter on Camano. I can sleep late and still get out before the sun. The only problem is how bad my fingers hurt by the time I am done taking a few pictures. This was an experiment with the sunrise at Old English Boom on North Camano Island.
